My name is Shannon Schroeder and I am the DFL endorsed candidate running for State Representative in District 13B. District 13B is made up of Sauk Rapids, Sartell, St. Stephen, Opole, Holdingford, St. Wendel and the surrounding areas.
I grew up in Central Minnesota attended the College of St. Benedict where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and achieved my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Cloud State University. For a number of years I have worked in fields that require listening skills, negotiation and the ability to compromise.
I am not a career politician, but I am a citizen and what I have witnessed this past legislative session is our leadership not listening to the people and creating policies that are hurting our children, our families, our communities, and our businesses. This past session, our current legislators borrowed money from our schools and we now owe our schools 2.4 billion dollars; they eliminated the Market Value Homestead Credit which caused homeowners (like you and I) to have our property taxes increase while home values have plummeted; they have also cut aide to our cities and counties which have left them struggling to provide necessary services to our communities. These cuts have increased our property taxes and caused small business property taxes to increase by an average of 7.4% statewide!
